O'Keeffe Dunmore, County Cork?

There are Roman Catholic church records available for the diocese of Kildorrery (Kilbolane). These date from 1829 for baptismal records and 1822 for marriage records. You can find these at the National Library of Ireland, Pos. 4992. If you have any difficulty, you could try writing to the parish priest for more assistance.

I tried to find a Dunmore in Co. Cork, but I was unable to find it. Perhaps someone in the local community might recognise it?

You might be able to find William advertised as a wheelwright in some of the trade directories or newspapers of the area. You might be able to find some of these on this very helpful website. It includes lots of information for Co. Cork: www.failtefomhat.com Trade directories for that period in Cork include:

You could also try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) or the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64). There is a Dunmore south west?  of Clonakilty but not near Milford where he was married. I wondered if the he could have been from "Donoughmore" which I think is nearer Milford and the immigration/emmigration agents mis-spelt it when he arrived in Australia?

It seems we may be very distant cousins.

My GG Grandfather, Timothy Burke Rea (Rae), was also on the Navarino and without the assistance of the O'Keeffe family he could not have made the journey. Quoting from the Surgeon's Report :-

"It also appears that two persons were found concealed in the ship after we had put to sea viz. TIMOTHY RAE, Ploughman, by connivance of his relatives, the family O'Keefe. He was victualled May 13th and ...len McCarthy, Dairy, by the connivance of Jeremiah Gorman, her Uncle, she was victualled May 18th.  Both parties are of good conduct and character."

Timothy Burke Rea (native of Milford) was the son of Patrick Rea and Margaret Burke (from Newtown and sister of Johanna) who married in the Parish of Shandrum, Cork, on 28 November 1817.  Their parent's names were not stated but the witnesses were Edmond Burk and Edmond Donner.

Many years ago I did make an attempt to trace the O'Keeffe family in Australia but without luck.

I have not previously heard of the young Jeremiah.  It seems that only children aged from 1 to 15 were listed in the immigration papers, perhaps he was under one year old.

Sorry that this does not help you with locating Dunmore but I was very pleased to read your posting.
