I believe that my mother's family is from Gort and am trying to find out more about them. My great grandfather Martin NOLAN immigrated to the U.S. (1870) either with or within a few months of his friend John ROCK. I have found baptisms for both of them in Gort. Martin was bap. 1850, sister Mary 1853 and brother John 1857. Their parents were Michael NOLAN and Mary CONNOLLY. John ROCK was bap 1852, his sister Bridget 1851 and sister Mary 1853. Parents were Bartholomey ROCK and Mary GEAGAN. I can't find marriages for either set of parents. Can anyone help me with more information? Thank you very much, Cindy Barnhart, Texas

Great to hear from you! My email is cbarnhart50@gmail.com
My maternal g-grandfather is Martin Nolan. Recently I was contacted through Ancestry.com by a researcher in California who said that his wife was related to me through the Nolan family. The story he had was that the Nolan family was from Galway and that John Rock and Martin Nolan knew each other in Ireland and emigrated together about 1870. They spent a short time in Baltimore, Maryland and Virginia City, Nevada and finally settled in the area of Bisbee, Arizona.
About 1881 John Rock married Martin's sister Mary Nolan in Tombstone, Arizona. Although my grandmother was raised in the area, I was never told about the the Rock family being connected to the Nolan family. When I got on Rootsireland I was looking for a Nolan and Rock family in fairly close proximity in Galway. That is what led me to Gort. Looking forward to seeing your attachments! Thanks again, Cindy
