I'm searching this haystack for a couple of needles...

My great grandfather's cousins were Kennedys, from (at present) an unknown place. Based on records found in New York, they must have emigrated in the late 1840s. I do not know the father's given name and believe he may have been deceased at the time the family left Ireland. It appears that the family arrived in the U.S. by chain migration, a couple at a time. They settled in West Troy(Watervliet)/Green Island, Albany County, New York, which is about 5 hours north of New York City. Being so far north, it's possible that they may originally have landed in Canada and traveled south.

Names: Mother,Mary (Reynolds) Kennedy. Children: Bridget Kennedy, born abt. 1830, Catherine- abt. 1832, John, Ann, Thomas. Only Bridget married, in the US, 1st a man named Michael Glyn, and 2nd married Michael Jennings.

My Reynolds family lived in the Ballinasloe - Clontuskert, County Galway area so thought it possible that Mary may have married a Kennedy from the Ahascragh area. Just grasping and hoping...

A recently found record states that my great grandfather, John Reynolds, was born in "Ahascra" in 1841. His parents were Martin Reynolds and Honor Powell, who lived in Moher, Ballinasloe, Galway.

Being unable to search either church (Catholic) or local records, it seemed important to provide all the above info in case anyone is able to make a connection, or has a suggestion about where to search next.

If you've read this far, thank you. Hope to hear from someone. Best wishes to all in their search.

  • Teresa,

Thank you for your prompt response. I know there was a Reynolds family in Clontuskert parish and my family was most certainly related to them, just not sure exactly how!  I will post the rest of the associated names, dates and information that I have in hopes that someone will be able to make a definite connection.

I look forward to more contact and information from parish representatives, and appreciate the work you do as volunteers.
