Carolans from Nobber, Co. Meath to USA

I have just noticed your email regarding the Carolan's. Somewhere in my files (give me a bit of time to get it out)

I know there is a Carolon connection in my husband's side of the family. His great great grandfather was Nicholas Halpin who married Mary Halpin. She was on of 3 sister who came to Australia and Mary married Patrick Lalor.

Mary's mother was Elizabeth Finnegan (I have information on all of that). What I do remember is that several of the baptism records included the name Carolan and I am fairly sure that one of the family actually married a Carolan. This may have actually, thinking about it further, been a sister of Elizabeth (nee Finnegan) Halpin.

Nicholas and Elizabeth Halpin were farming at Nobber, County Meath on the "Whitewood Estate". (note the name Whitewood on your baptism certificate).

Whitewood was part of the Gormanston Estate. Mary Halpin was actually a servant there and before coming to Australia was given instructions on a Whitewood letterhead which we still have.

It mostly covers the time after they came to the States but may be of interest to you. I did find the surname in the eastern USA and in the Midwest, Illinois, not far from where my ancestors lived. But so far no link has been established to the others in this country.

Not sure if you are still doing this. My ancestors James Cassidy and his wife Ann Sillery as well as James Carolan and Ann  were from Nobber Civil Parish I am not sure which townlands though. I believe that the Cassidys were from College and the Carolans were from Nobber. The immigrats were John Carolan and Elizabeth Cassidy, his wife. They immigrated in 1859 to Phildadelphia Pa. then went down to New Castle De.

Any newspaper exposure would be welcome. I'll pay any fees incurred.
