Hello,
I am looking for information on my great-grandmother Kathleen Lucille Green born in Dublin proper or the Dublin area in 1878. She was the daughter of James Green and Mary Woods.
I once had a professional genealogist check for her birth certificate, at the city level (not at the parish or local level) and they were unable to find anything.
I believe her father was English, possibly from Gainsborough, Lincolnshire. I know that she left at an early age to live with an aunt in England because she was one of twins and the family was unable to feed them all. She later volunteered as a nurse's aid for the Boer War in South Africa, then later met and married Ferguson Lepine, an American, in Argentina. They had a daughter named Carlota Lucia Lepine born 1907, Argentina. In 1916 they moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Thanks,
Karen Gaffney

Hi Karen,
This is a particularly tricky one. You may need to try records in the UK, South Africa or even Argentina in order to get more clues about this particular relative.
However, some other sources that you may try include: Civil registration records which are available from the General Register Office (GRO). These start from 1864. You can access the website here: http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm Some other websites that may help are: http://www.rootsireland.ie/ifhf/map.php for information on the Dublin area or https://familysearch.org/ and also http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/
I wish you the best of luck in your search.
Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.
Kind regards,
