My great grandfather, Thomas Brown, met his wife Bridget Delia O'Loughlin on the ship coming to America as they emigrated. At least I assume they did not know each other before hand. Bridget travelled to America with her brother John. Another sister, Margaret O'Loughlin also came to America (married Michael Fagan) and they settled in Lowell, Massachusetts. Their parents were Michael O'Loughlin and Bridget Hurley and I believe they lived in Drumcarna, Ballyea, County Clare as found on the 1901 and 1911 censuses.
Michael and Bridget married 27 Jan 1869 in Inagh, Ennistymon, County Clare. Bridgets Hurley's parents were William and Mary Hurley and Michael's father was also named Michael O'Loughlin.
There were many children born to Michael and Bridget and they are listed born in Maurices Mills/Morris Mills, but it is possible there may be two families with the same names and surnames. I have found 17 children listed as born to Michael and Bridget, however on the 1911 census, the family that I believe is a match for my gr gr grandparents stated that there were only nine children. All of the 17 children I have found are listed as coming from Maurices Milles (Morris Mills) and they fit chronologically, so it is possible they are the same family of siblings. They range from birth date 1870 to the last (twins) born in 1893. Bridget Hurley O'Loughlin would have been about 45 yrs old in 1893.
The were in order of birth, Margaret, John, Michael, Mary, Bridget (my gr grandmother), Susan, Catherine, Annie, Patrick, Michael, Hanna, Michael, Johanna, William, Francis, Ellen and Honor (twins). There are three Michaels, but since the father and grandfather were also Michael's it is conceivable that the earlier two Michael's did not survive and thus a third Michael was named. I would appreciate any information anyone may have on my O'Loughlins/Hurley's.
Additonally, I believe Bridget Hurley was born in Drumanure, Inagh, Ennistimon/Ennistymon. Thanks for reading.

Hi Linda,
You could try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) or the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64). The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38): Microfilm copies of the books for all of Ireland are available at the National Archives of Ireland (NAI) http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/tithe-applotment-books-and-the-primary-griffith-valuation/ or the Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS). Griffith's is freely available here: www.askaboutireland.com or here: www.failteromhat.com Failte Romhat has lots of other useful links you could try looking at.
Civil registration records are available from the General Register Office (GRO). These start from 1864. You can access the website here: http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm . Valuations office in Dublin (http://www.valoff.ie) will have a record of the land registry from 1855 to modern times. This will assist in seeing what happened to any land the families may have owned (as it usually passed on to a relation).
Church of Ireland parish registers for the period up to 1870 are public records. Registers are available for about one third of the parishes, however many were destroyed in the Public Records Office in Dublin in 1922. Most are still held by the local clergy, although some are in the National Archives of Ireland and others are in the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin. A list of all surviving registers is available in the National Archives. http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/. If you have any difficulty, you could try writing to the parish priest for more assistance.

I wish you the best of luck with your search.
Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

Hi John,
This may not be of help but, there were a family of O Loughlins in Glendine South near Miltown Malbay, which is on the border with the Inagh parish and unfortunately they are all gone now. The following link will show you their names on the 1901 census. http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Clare/Miltown_Malbay/G… If a Michael had existed there previously (Denis Father) this may be the family. It was common for people from this area to marry others from Inagh as it was only a couple of miles away and would be registered in the Inagh parish records. I cant figure out how they would be in Morrises Mills or Ballyea. If you think this may be a contender, i will try and help further by checking church records.
