Three siblings, Richard McEvoy, John McAvoy and Mary McEvoy, immigrated to western Niagara County, NY between 1846 and 1852. Their parents were Martin & Helen (Unknown) McEvoy. Their birth dates range from 1800 to 1821, I am looking for other siblings who remained in Tipperary (unlikely that there would only be three children born in a 21 year span).
In 1829 in The Title Applotment for Bourney, Martin McAboy was listed on page 10 as living in Behaglass, Roscrea.
In 1831 in the Tithe Defaulters, Martin McEvoy was listed as a Farmer, living in Behaglass.
According to RC Church burial records a Martin MacKevoy, age 69, died on 26 Jan 1839, his address was listed as Lismakin. Parish/District listed as Cournaganeen (Bourney). (Where would he have been buried? Is there a headstone?)
Mary McEvoy, born about March 1821, married Malachi Carroll on 7 Feb 1842 in the church at Cournaganeen, Bourney. Her residence was listed as Lismakin. Witnesses were Thomas Whalen and Anne Lahy. Mary was the first to immigrate in 1846, leaving her first born child John Carroll (who was baptised 12 Apr 1843 at Cournaganeen. Sponsors were John Carroll and Anne Lahy) with her husband as she traveled with a family as their nursemaid to America. Her husband and son joined her a few years later.
John McAvoy (born about 1800) was the next to immigrate sometime prior to 1851. He was married to Mary Carey (born abt 1795). She followed in 1851 with their children Martin (b 1830 my gggf), Hanora (b 1832) , Dennis (b 1834), Mary (b 1836), and John (b 1841). All were born in Tipperary, baptism records have been found for all of the children born 1836 and after in Cournaganeen, Bourney. Three additional baptisms were found for John McAboy and Mary Carey for children that did not immigrate and may have perished during the famine - Michael (1839) Margaret (1845), Catherine (1848). Is there any information to be found for them?
Richard McEvoy was the last to immigrate in 1852. I believe he was single and married Mary Fermoile in Niagara Co, NY. Our family has several ties to the Fermoyle family. Richard's headstone in St Patrick's Cemetery, Barker, NY listed his birthplace as Co Tipperary and was my first clue to where in Ireland my family is from.
Both Dennis and Martin's obituaries listed their home in Ireland as "Rosegray" Tipperary.
One of our mysteries is the maiden name of these siblings mother. We can only refer to her as "Helen Unknown" and would love to know who her family was. Would there be any parish records for the birth of their children that might provide a clue? Or more information in parish records for the death of her husband Martin?
Thank you. I look forward to hearing from you and any additional information or assistance you can provide.

Hi Gail,
There is another lady researching McEvoy/McAvoy's in Roscrea. She has posted on the Roscrea Tipprary parish board. Perhaps you two should compare notes? You could join the Roscrea parish page perhaps enquire with her as to wether or not you may have some of the same relatives.
As for church records for the area, you can view which records are available and where they may be found here: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=showidrecords&CityCounty=Tipperary%20North&parish=Roscrea&churchid=805
This particular site allows you to browse other records for the county and area and may yeild some information and ideas for you.
I wish you the best of luck with your search.
Kind regards

Hi Gail,
Stumbled upon your post as I also have Carroll ancestors. Mine came from Hospital, Limerick in 1840's & 50's. to Frankfort, KY and St Mary's, KS.
I have had much success with finding transcriptions of church records for my Irish ancestors on rootsireland.ie. It is a pay as you go site. Free to search but you pay to see an entire record. So, important to go in with as much info as possible to narrow your search. The package of credits I bought recently cost me about $4.50 for each record I viewed fully, but it did deliver results and new clues. And is cheaper than a trip or hiring someone else to find the same info.
Good luck,
Susan

Yes, the other post is from my cousin, we have been working on our McEvoy ancestors about 10 years now. Since our original posts we have found a few records (also with the help of Nenagh Heritage Centre) showing the baptisms of two additional daughters born in 1845 and 1848 that did not emigrate with the rest of the family to the US in 1851. We have not found death records for Margaret and Catherine McEvoy, leaving us to wonder if they perished in the famine?
We did learn that the family was living in Gortderryboy from 1841-1848, and lived in Gortnaskehey in 1836 when son John was born. I have a few questions for this group who are still living in Bournea Parish. I'm curious about this area, are people still living in Gortderryboy and Gortnaskehey today? might there be any McEvoys, Fermoyles, Monahan's, or Carey's living in this area? These are the surnames of the sponsors of the McEvoy children.
Thank you for any information you are able to share.
Gail

My post from Tuesday 4th September 2012 (in the main Ireland message board) has been updated with current information in 2021, and re-posted here in Bourney Parish, where my ancestors lived. I would appreciate your assistance with the following:
1. who was the wife of Martin McEvoy who died in 1839 in Lismackin? I only know her first name was Helen.
2, who were the other children born to Martin and Helen (unknown) McEvoy? The 21 year span of birth years of the three known children would suggest there were other siblings. Did they remain in Ireland and have living descendants?
