In search of the family of Patrick Grealy born about 1800-1810. I have a marriage record from Cummer. Patrick married a woman named Margaret in 1832. She was a Reily. Sps to the wedding were John Reily and Mary Ruane. I am descended from their daughter, Bridget. Thier daughter married Michael Burke. His father is John Burke.  His mother is Mary Ann Cunningham.

All the above named people were from Co Galway and immigrated to the USA during the famine years.  They settled in the state of Maine.

Thank you.

  • Hello,

I believe I have run across these Maine Grealy/Greally/Greeleys before.  My wife is descended from Greeleys, but from Ballyhaunis, Mayo.  However, I do some research related to Portland, Maine, also.  If you have not already found these, I believe these are the graves of your Bridget Greeley Burke and Michael Burke:

    Bridget:

    http://www.portlanddiocese.net/genealogy_search.php?id=2181244&searchname=Burke&searchcem=9&recnum=25&resultnum=25

    Michael:

    http://www.portlanddiocese.net/genealogy_search.php?id=2181407&searchname=Burke&searchcem=9&recnum=175&resultnum=25

These indicate that they are buried in graves 3 and 2 respectively, could mean someone else is buried with them.  I did not find Patrick and Margaret Reily Grealy in the index for Calvary Cemetery.

    Hope that is helpful.

  •  Hi IrishinMe.

Sorry for not looking into this for you sooner, was not an admin for this Parish at the time you first posted, I will now check it out for you, the fact that Cummer Church records can not help you does not mean all is lost. Researching your ancestors can sometime be a nightmare and results sometime can be found but very often they can not be found. If any record exist locally relevant to you I will endeavour to find them, will get back to you in the next week or two

  • Frances Kelly-Madden BA Dip Family History.

Since I saw your request I have been researching Surnames listed. The Burke Greely Family Ireland to America website. ( hosted by a branch of your family) includes the family graves  Michael and Bridget Greely Burke.  John and Catherine Greely Craven, Michael and Winifred Healy Greely. The graves are in Calvary Cemetery South Portland,  Maine, U S A. Most of the surnames mentioned in this website are listed in Griffiths Valuation  for the parish of Annaghdown. Valuation done in 1855. In the parish  of Annaghdown, living  or possessing land In GRANGE  at that time are John Burke, Thomas Divilly Michael and John Flaherty Patrick Greely. In CLUIDEREVAGH now Cluide. there is Jeremiah Grealy and John Hession. In GLENREVAGH there is John and Patrick Craven. In AUCLOGEEN there is John Craven. In the parish of Cummer/Kilmoylan  in BALLYINASTUCKAUN  Nnow Ballinastack There is Thomas Reilly, James and Mathias Ruane.  In DOONBEG there is a Thomas Reilly, In GORTBEG there is  John and Michael  and Patrick Reilly. In BROCAGH there is John Reilly. There is James Reilly in CARROWBEG  Belclare,  Maybr this will narrow it down for you.  marriages usually took place in the brides parish,  So Margaret Reilly was more than likely from Cummer/Kilmoylan parish. I will try to find  out further information for you and hope this will narrow your search.
