Hello,
I am an American searching for family of my great great grandfather, James Lane. James was born in Lusmagh on 22 January 1843. He was a plasterer. He emigrated to the United States in 1860 via LIverpool on the S.S. Tuscarora and settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He married Ellen Renahan who was originally from Birr. I would love to hear from anyone related to James Lane.
Thanks!
Laurie

Hi Laurie,
I've forwarded your query to a volunteer in County Offaly who may be able to assist or advise you.

Via our Volunteer:
a good idea I think is to contact the PP whose name and address I obtained in the Clonfert Diocese website and it is:
V. Rev. Phil Hearty CSsR, Adm, Lusmagh, Banagher, Co. Offaly. Tel. 057 915 1358
I know priests get a lot of genealogical enquiries and might sometimes match them up.
Other lines of enquiry would be at
East Galway www.galwayeast.rootsireland.ie/
and
Irish Midlands Ancestry www.irishmidlandsancestry.com

Hi Laurie,
I have a small bit of information relating to Lane family of Lusmagh. Denis Kelly (Local Historian) confirms that there was a John? Lane rendered as Leahan locally who married a Renehan woman. Their first child John was born on March 1st 1834. While this is quite brief it may perhaps provide you with another avenue to pursue.
In many ways this information mimics what you have already so needs some further checking out. There may be a mistake in transcribing the material. Or perhaps there were Lanes from two different generations married to Renehan ladies. I will get back to Denis to see of he can clarify this matter.

Hi Christy,
Thank you so much! I would be interested in any other details Denis might have. It sounds like it could be a good connection to follow. I've been preoccupied lately trying to trace the O'Neill side (my great great grandfather) who James' daughter married, so I've been a little slow in following up with the leads on this side of the family. I very much appreciate your help!
Regards,
Laurie
