Looking for information about Thomas Patrick Tormey. He immigrated to Virginia (USA) around 1847; possibly 1849. He was born 31 July 1825 (the year could be off, but this was what is on the death records in the US.)
He married Mary Susan Hines in Greenbrier County, Virgina, USA 20 July 1854. They settled in Scot Depot, Putnam County, West Virginia sometime after 1854. I believe he had two sisters that came to live with him around 1870; names were Margrett and Mary. He had one son, Bernard C. Tormey, born in Virginia. I have no information about his life before he came to the US. One family member thought he lived in County Roscommon, but that is the only information I have.
Would be grateful for any help in this matter.

Hello Elana, I am looking at old queries and it is difficult to find records at that remove without the parents names, I see no Thomas in the church records all we have pre 1864, closest to 1825 was 1821, the other names Margaret and Mary are so frequent in Ireland that it is impossible to pick one out, I searched Roots Ireland 1820 to 1830 and all the baptisms were in what I call the midland counties if you stretch it a bit, Offaly (Kings County) Longford, Westmeath; Meath and Cavan. You can see surname distribution on this site, surnames are free to search to get location at various periods, how ever I have used up my free allocation for now but the name is not common McLysaghts Surnames of Ireland says it is a Norse name from early times and mainly in Longford and surrounding which is where I found it
,there are a number of private Facebook pages for the various counties doing genealogy and others doing DNA, long shot but maybe helpful.Good Luck
