Timothy, son of Rev. Adam Reddy of Mohill Parish, became a United Irishman against hios father's wishes and politics, and fled to the United States in the 1790s when the British crushed the rebellion.

I would like any information about this Reddy family, whether they were native to Mohill or from elsewhere.  Adam Reddy the father was ordained in the Church of Ireland (Protestant).  Where was he educated?  Who was his wife, Timnothy's mother?  Were there other children in the family?  Are the parents buried in Mohill parish churchyard?

  • Hello Mick, looking over unanswered queries and yours is a tricky one as Leitrim records  are poor at that point or pre about 1830 in all cases, the name Reddy does not appear on the Leitrim site but the more common Leitrim name of Roddy does and this name is said to be the family who guarded Fenagh Abbey near Mohill, otherwise you could contact the Representative Body Library to see if they have any record of the family Reddy.

https://www.ireland.anglican.org/about/rcb-library/online-parish-records I mailed them myself and got a prompt reply on Rectors etc

The Leitirm website is here https://www.yourleitrimancestors.ie/index.htm also Ballinamore Library local history section may be of assistance. Leitrim County Council runs the library but the local history section is in Ballinamore.

    Good Luck
