I am hoping to find information on my husband's great-great grandmother, Margaret Euphemia ROBINSON, and her parents.

Margaret Euphemia ROBINSON was born 27 March 1832 in Raphoe, Donegal, Ireland to Henry Robinson and his wife Euphemia Hindman Robinson.  She is said to have emigrated to America in 1842 with her older sister Eliza and her mother.  She then married Patrick CARROLL 14 August 1855 in York county, New Brunswick, Canada.

Our family has very little information on her parents Henry ROBINSON and Euphemia HINDMAN.  Henry was born about 1806, place unknown, and died in Raphoe about 1837.  Euphemia was born about 1810, place unknown, and died in Raphoe about 1832 or emigrated to America.  Possibly the two of them were married in Raphoe.

Thank you!

    Hi

You might try http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/counties/ulster/index_do.htm#… and BROWSE for the availability and locations of records for County Donegal.

Do you know much about their emigration? Dates, the reason why they left, etc.? Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than the port of departure. If you knew which city they arrived at (e.g. Liverpool), this could be a good place to find more information, and perhaps even find out an exact place of origin.

If you haven't already - You could try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp

    or the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64) http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/

or the Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS) https://familysearch.org/

Failte Romhat has lots of other useful links you could try looking at ). www.failteromhat.com

Also remember to post as much information as you can regarding the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Leann,

You are not going to want to hear this but the most important source for you, the Tithe Applotment Books, is missing for Raphoe!!  Well, it is not missing but it only contains one townland where it should have 30 or 40.  It should have told you exactly where Henry Robinson lived and where the Hindmans lived.

The best you can do now is search the next census substitute which is the Griffiths Valuation to see where they Robinsons and Hindmans lived in the 1850s:

    http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/

One other place you could search is the records for Raphoe Cathedral, or indeed any of the local churches which might have records from this period.  This is best done at RootsIreland and Familysearch.  This is Margaret's baptism as the father is called Henry and the mother is called Euphemia:

You will need to buy it in order to see where they lived and which church this took place in.  I cannot see any other baptisms to this couple nor can I see their marriage but knowing where they were from would be a huge step forward for you.
