My great grandfather was Patrick Daniel Walsh. According to his death certificate, he was born in Lawrencetown, Galway on 4/1/1868 (a family story says his birth was 4/1/1862). On his death certificate, which his oldest daugther probably witnessed, Patrick Daniel's parents are listed as Patrick Walsh and Bridget Grady (see note below). The family story is that the father Patrick was much older than Bridget and died before the rest of the family emigrated to the United States. Bridget (Grady) Walsh emigrated to the United States around 1882 with her sons Patrick Daniel, James, Peter, Martin and John. Bridget died around 1917 in Pennsylvania. They stayed with a family named Collins in Pennsylvania when they first arrived in the US. My understanding is not they did not necessarily travel together.
I was able to find LDS records for two of the sons:
Martin J. Walsh born 2/1/1868 in Lawrencetown to a Patt Walsh and Bridget Grady. The fact that Martin was born in February 1868 seems to negate the possibility that Patrick Daniel was born in April 1868 (perhaps the family story of 4/1/1862 is accurate?)
James Walsh born 12/31/1864 in Lawrencetown to a Patt Walsh and Bridget Grady.
Another son, Peter Walsh was born in 1865 according to US Census records.
John Walsh - I think he emigrated to Nova Scotia. I do not have a birth year for him.
NOTE: Even though the death record listed Patrick Daniel's parents as Patrick Walsh and Bridget Grady, there are a few family stories that the parent names were James Walsh and Bridget Griffin.
I would love to find extended family members. I would love to find actual birth dates and the marriage date and birth dates for Patrick Daniel's parents. Thank you so much for Ireland Reaching Out initiative!!
