have just found out that i am a multi-generation descendent of owen (or orva) gilligan who we think was born in 1799 in boyle, and at age 48, he migrated to america via canada on the "eliza lidell" (that sailed from sligo on 3 june arriving into shippegan, new brunswick on 27 july 1847) with his wife ellen age 46, his daughters (margaret 12, bridget 8) and his sons (john 24, daniel 10 and michael 3. i am a great x 4 grand-daughter on john gilligan.
i can relay that owen gilligan lived to be 90 years old, and died at his son's (john) home in rochester, new york on 22 jan 1855 and that he served in the american army during the war of 1812 and 1815 as a quarter master. his funeral (which was evidently VERY well attended) was held at st. briget's church on 23 jan in rochester. we are still working to identify his grave and that of his wife, ellen, due to the graves being relocated in the early 1870's.
we have no other information on owen and ellen, i.e., their lineage and their lives prior to their arrival in north america. now that i have found this wonderful website, an anxious to explore what is available within it, and can only offer my heartfelt thanks to anyone who can provide any threads to their lives, and i will do what i can to provide any information from here on the "other side of the pond" to anyone seeking data/contacts for any of their emigrant relatives that wound up over here!
THANK YOU!!!!

Hello!
I am also a descendant of Owen Gilligan. He is my 4th great grandfather. I am descended from his son John. Much of my information is similar to yours however, there are a few notable differences. Wondering if you have any documentation/sites for his wife and children or a tree on ancestry.
I have his wife as Bridget from the 1850 US Census for Rochester, NY. And I have his children as Michael, John, and James -- no Daniel, Bridget or Margaret.
I did not have the Canadian immigration information as our lore is he came to retire with his son. But, it seems he went back and forth maybe quite a few times. I would love to collaborate and share data. I am PB177 on Ancestry and my tree is Britt/Creedon Family Tree.
