My grandmother was Ellen RUSSELL, the daughter of Thomas RUSSELL & Ellen HYLAND, and was born in Mitchelstown on 06 July 1877. She was the 10th of 12 children born to this couple. Thomas was a baker by trade, on Lower Cork Street, and appears to have remained so until his death in 1915.
One thing I would like to do is make contact with descendents of my grandmother's siblings - sadly, although I have found a few, to date none of them appear to have much in the way of any family information.
I have made contact with the gt granddaughter, a 3rd cousin, of one of gt grandfather Thomas's brothers, who has given me some help with her gt grandfather's line.
The other thing I would like to do is to be able to find the burial places/graves of my RUSSELL & HYLAND ancestors and other relatives on our next visit to Co Cork.
After 16 years of looking, if any one can help I would be very happy to hear from them.

Hi
I see yout post on Ireland Reaching Out.As a genealogist I reckon I can find living Russell descendants in the Mitchelstown area. We can examine the possibilities on your reply.

Hi Amanda
My apologies for not having replied sooner - still trying to find my way around this web site - a little tricky I guess until you get to know your way around it.
Anyway, please see my comments to Seamus, if you can't read it I'll email it to you separately.
Happy New Year

Hi Seamus
Thanks for the offer. I have already made contact with a 3rd cousin in M'town who tells me that there are indeed living rellies there but probably not related to descendants of siblings of my grandmother.
For the moment I would be quite happy to know where some of my rellies are buried - most of the Russells didn't seem to go far from M'town.
The other thing is, what happened to my granny's two sisters referred to in the acknowledgement placed in the Irish Independent following her death in 1944? The two sisters were Catherine born 21 Oct 1871 and Margaret (married name was Fitzgerald) born 04 Sep 1882. The announcement is attached. Margaret was still alive at Christmas 1945 because my aunt (dad's sister) mentioned in a letter to my dad that Aunt Maggie stayed with them for the holiday.
Goodness knows what seems to have happened to the Russell boys!
Happy New Year

Hi Hugo,
On Ancestry DNA a Trish Beauchamp is listed as a DNA match with me. My great grandmother was Catherine Russell from Ballinvoher, Kilworth Co. Cork not too far from Mitchelstown. Let me know if there may be a link between us.

Hello Mary
My mother's maiden name was Beauchamp and she came from the New Forest Area on the border of Hampshire & Wiltshire. I don't know of a Trish Beauchamp though. I have just checked on ancestry DNA and I can't see any matches to you or Trish.
Thank you for getting in touch.
Best wishes
Stuart
