I am looking for any information available for Margaret Clarke, born June 17 , 1846, probably in Kinnegad.  Her parents are Patrick Clark and Margaret Maguire.  I have found birth certificates from Kinnegsd for her two brothers,  Francis, born or baptized April 2, 1834 and Richard born or baptized Aug 17 , 1836.  I have not been able to verify Margaret's birth or find any information about her parents.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Hi

    Thank you for your message.

    You might try checking:

     http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseact…

If you haven't already you might try Griffith's Valuation (1848-64) http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/

or the Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS) https://familysearch.org/ for Margaret and her relatives.

Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you.

Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi,

Could you post a link to a description of how to read Griffin's Valuation?  I found several references to Patrick Clarke and I don't know how to tell which one might be the one from Kinneged that I am looking for.

    Thanks

  • Hi

On the main page http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/ click Read More... under this heading is an information bar to the right of the screen and low down - it gives you various options for information regarding the Valuation documents - including maps...

    I hope this helps.

    All the best.

  • Hi Anthony,

No, I have not found any information about Margaret Clarke or her parents.  All I have is the names and baptism dates of her two brothers.   I am not sure what to check next.   I have tried paying for individual records at rootsireland.ie but they don't supply copies of the originals and the information that I received just confirmed what I already knew about Margaret's brothers.  If the youngest brother was born in 1834 I would expect to be able to find a marriage record for Margaret's parents around 1833.  Ancestry.com has nothing yet.   I would appreciate any suggestions short of flying to Kinnegad.  (we Americans drive on the wrong side of the road so I don't think I could drive in Ireland)

    Thanks

    Don

  • Hi, Don,

If you are happy to do so,

you can forward some of the details/documents that you have already obtained to me at this email address:

    ballyfermot@irelandxo.com

I will look over them and try to fill in the gaps as best as I can or, at least, point you in the right direction.

  • Anthony C has had to resign as a volunteer.  Is there anyone else who can help me?  I have new information that Patrick Clarke may have been married twice and that his daughter Esther, by the first marriage married Michael Keegan from Kinnegad,  had several children, and moved to Newport, RI after my ancestor, Margaret Clarke moved there.  Esther and Margaret might be sisters or half sisters.

Michael Keegan never moved to the US so he may have died in Ireland.  The Keegan's in Newport were godparents to my GG aunts and uncles who were the children of Margaret Clarke and James McDonnell in Newport.

If I can find more about the Keegans I might find more about the Clarkes.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    thanks

  • I should add that Anthony C did an outstanding job and was able to locate a lot of information about Patrick Clarke's landlord and lease.  He painted a picture of life in Kinnegad in 1860 and he will be greatly missed.

  • Hi Don,

Thanks for the kind words. I haven't quit Ireland Reaching Out completely, things just got really busy and so I needed to prioritize. Anyway, I see you have uncovered more details about your ancestry. I will have to dig out all the information I already got for you and I will then add in the new info that you have, then we can get back on track once again. Sound like a plan?
