Ireland Reaching Out

During 1847, emigration from kilmacthoms was at it's highest. Hundreds of people fled Kilmacthomas.To Canada, the USA and of course the UK. Dr John Coughlan carried out a census of Kilmackthomas in 1848.

He noted that Pat Donoghue had gone to the USA and four people accouped this house.Also at this time Edmond Kearney had ten people in his house. There are no names given in the census. Sheila & Se?n Murphy's book 'The Comeraghs- fact and famine deals a littl with this. But, this book is now ouit of print.

As a starting point, you should check out the death register at Dungarvana Library www.waterfordcoco.ie. Go to the library page and you will find the death register  among with other interesting search registers. the death register is handy in that it lists witness to a passing, which can tie in to the family.

i have photographed Stradbally graveyard, you can find this at www.historicgraves.ie

the names are not yet transcribed, but you can read all the headstones. mind, you some will be difficult. But we will attend to these at a later date.

Thank you for the additional web sites. The library death register did supply some early information (infant and childrens' deaths). I have found John Donohue in the 1901 Ireland census house #4 Stradbally Waterford. I appreciate the help and I will keep researching. There are grave stones in your photo files that could be a family match....more research will answer that question.

The Historic Graves site is wonderful although the O'Donoghue family I am research was Roman Catholic so not in that data base as yet. I am using the site for other family members and hope to discover information for another branch. I am happily 99% Irish!

I appreciate the help and I am watching the growth of IrelandXO with great interest because I do hope to find true connections to my history. The best part of the family research is the 1st,2nd,3rd cousins etc I have found all over the world so I have high hopes for Ireland!

Hi. I just joined Ancestry.com and found out some information about my father's family.  My father, Dennis, was born in Amesbury MA in 1922, the youngest of 6 or 7 children, but grew up in Beacon NY. His mother Elizabeth O'Donoghue O'Neil died when he was 8 which would make it 1930.  The only problem I'm having is verifying if Elizabeth was born in NY or Ireland. Records say that her parents were born in Waterford, Ireland.  Do you think we are talking about the same Elizabeth?

Hello Peggy, I would guess that the tree on ancestry.com is mine (pqresearch2006). Your Grandmother Elizabeth's sister, Kathryn, was my grandmother! Both were born in Ireland but I do not have documentation for Elizabeth "Bessie". Please contact me so that we can exchange family information easily.
