  • Hello Delia,

I have just come across your message - I found James in the 1911 Ireland census and he has a daughter, Ellen, sister of Frank. You may already have this information.

It might be possible to find out what happened to Ellen here in Ireland.

    Did Frank return to Ireland?

    regards

  • Have come across more information since that posting.  My Frank/Francis is married and in USA- albany NY by 1870 so he has left around that time.  His USA naturalization give his place of birth / last residence as Kings Co.[ need to clarify birth or residence} His date of birth varies but it is around 1845- 1848 - so the family in Clonmore would not be his sister Ellen nor his father John but John could be the brother of Frank I suppose.  On his death cert in USA,Frank lists parents as JOhn & Margaret his wife as Catharine Healy McNally..  USA census list wife as catherine arrived USA 1870.  Did find a Francis McNally wed to a Catharine Healy in Edenderry that is the only match for those names so that must be him.  Research as gone backwards from that info,  CAn assume the bride was from Edenderry as I can trace her back two generations- all in Edenderry but Frank had to been around somewhere close for them to have met.

An Irish researcher and then confirmed by my own research - we cannot find such a Francis born in Ireland between 1840 and 1860. using rootsweb, irish history foundation, ancestry.com and familysearch.com.   We do find a Frank born to a James McNally in Ballinabrackey in 1844 and a wedding of a James McNally to Margaret Hickey in Ballinabrackey in 1844.  The church register lists the same but puts the name as Nally and the residence as Clonmore.  The researcher says that might refer to the bride's Margaret's home.

So would like to find the Healys of Edenderry.  The catholic church parish of Meath includes ballinabracky and edenderry and those areas seem to encompass Offaly, Meath & WestMeath down where they all meet.  Perhaps boundaries of the counties/parishes changed over time.

i did spend a lot of time researching the McNally's from Kildare but cannot establish a link. although it does seem that some McNallys born in Kildare were found in Offaly and others in Milltown/Kilbride area in Grifffiths.  The family name there is nally. Not sure if there is a direct link there or not

    thanks

  • Thank you s o much for your reply.  I did see that James but he is married to an Ellen and my Frank/Francis'mother was named margaret.  I did find a Margaret McNally in Edenderry age 70

    http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/King_s_Co_/Edenderry/C…

Frank never returned to Ireland.  He died in a railroad work accident in 1891 at age 42 per death cert.  He lists his father's name as John, his mother as Margaret. HIS AGE VARIES INUSA DOCS death as DOB 1849/1850, 1870 census 1845 name mcanally, 1880 census 1845, natualization paper DOB 1850.

My Grandmother Ryan also listed her age  and her birth year got lower as she lived on.  She came born 1874, then 1877, then 1878

We think he married Kate Healy on 17 May 1868.  Have records from Fr Halpin Edenderry.  Francis  lists his residence as Edenderry at that time but lists his father as JOhn.  I cannot find a Francis born to a John and Margaret in Meath, Offaly or West meath but can find one Frances born to a James & Margaret in Ballinabrackey with Ellen Ryan as witness on 14 Sept 1845.  This is again confirmed by Fr. Halin St Mary's church Edenderry.  Fr Halpin thinks my Francis is that Francis described born Ballinabrackey, wed in Edenderry

    Thanks again
