Hello,

I was doing some additional geanealogy research and I came across this website on the Costello Family.

My Great-Grandmother is Bridget " Delia " Costello from Fohenagh/Caltra/Galway area. We believe she was born on May 24, 1876 or possibly 1877?

She was raised on a farm in Ireland. She had a job lined up as a servant in New Jersey and she married a John Aloysius Mahon - Great Grandfather.

She immigrated to the USA from Ireland April 4, 1896 with a friend named Regan on a ship called "Lucania" which departed from the Port of Queenstown - now called Cobh.

John Aloysius Mahon was born in the USA but his parents: Michael Aloysius Mahon and Ann Connolly-Mahon were from Ireland - not exactly sure which area. I was hoping to find additional information on them as well.

Michael Aloysius Mahon - born 1842 Ireland and became a citizen Sept 28, 1876

Ann Connolly-Mahon - was born in 1847. Died in New Jersey, USA Dec 5, 1890. Could possibly be spelled Connelly?

Possible brothers of Michael: Laurence Mahon, born in 1842 in Ireland, died May 26, 1899, wife's name was Ann also, she died Dec 7, 1900.

POssible siblings of Ann Connolly ( Mahon ) - Luke, Mary, Patrick

From my research I believe her siblings were: Michael, Mary, Ned

- possible sibling Michael Costello born Aug 25, 1867

- possible sibling Ned Costello or Edward- born Jan 8, 1871. Baptism 528 Clonbrock, Galway.

- possibly Mary Costello - Birth Dec 12, 1872 Clonbrock

Parents were: - James Costello and Margaret Kelly-Costello.

** The information may or may not be correct but I thought I would post this just in case you might have any more information.

Thanks

  • Hi Mr. Mahon,

Here are links to Mahon's in Athenry as you are looking for Mahon's in this parish of Athenry.

    1. 1901 http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/results.jsp?census_year=19…

    2. 1911 http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/results.jsp?census_year=19…

These are the only Mahon's in the Athenry during this era.

    Kind Regards,

  • Hi Scott

I am researching a number of our family tress & my brother has talked about a Bridget Costello - being his great grandmother.  I know that he has found someone on the internet that he has been talking to about it.

We live in Auckland New Zealand.  I will try to get more info and see if we are part of the same family tree.

Can I contact you through this page or should I email you?

    Cheers
