I am looking for any information on the Tierney family. Matthew Tierney and Jane (or Joanna) Tierney (n?e Hicks) born 1789 emigrated from County Westmeath to London, UK between 1810 and 1823.
They had 4 boys whose names and birthdates were:
Michael Tierney (born 1810) County Westmeath, Ireland
Peter (born 1823) in St Lukes, Middlesex, England). This is my great-grandfather.
Matthew George (born 1825) St Lukes, Middlesex, England) and
John Thomas (born 1829) St Lukes, Middlesex, England.
I know that the family was Roman Catholic and that Matthew senior’s occupation was a cooper or barrel maker.
I am stuck with not knowing where in Westmeath they lived. I cannot find a record of when or where Matthew married Jane, but it is stated on her death certificate ‘widow of Matthew’.
I have found records of the baptisms of the boys born in London, but sadly not Michael's; all information is from UK census records 1841, 1851, 1861 and death certificates.
I know that Michael was indicted for assault in London and transported to Australia in 1834.
Any information on this family and their life in Ireland would be appreciated. Thank you.
Sue Osborne n?e Tierney

There is a website named
The Tierney Clan Society-that mentions Matthew Tierney.
The quickest way to get the site is to type in the above.

Hi Sue
have you tried the LDS site ts often a good source . Civil records do not begin in Ireland until 1864 so they would have to be church records

Thank you for your comments, yes I have seen Matthew Tierney on The Tierney Clan Society web site. He became a physician to the King of England, a bit more notorious than my ancestor, but thanks anyway!
I will try LDS again, new records are being added to sites frequently so I always hope.
If there is anybody out there looking for Tierneys in County Westmeath or neighboring Roscommon, which is where Jane Hicks b 1789 is from I'd love to here from you.
Or are there any TIERNEYs living in Australia who could be descendants of Michael Tierney transported on the ship The Surry (Surrey) in 1834. Perhaps we could share the information we have.

Thank you very much, that'll give me something to look at! Wouldn't it be good if I could connect my Tierney ancestors with one of those records! Many thanks for your time.
