  • Hi Dennis thanks for your message.

I think that the parish that you are referring to is actually spelt Killanin. It is both a Roman Catholic Parish and Civil Parish in CO. Galway.

THe Irishtimes website shows you what kind of information is available on the parish. You can see his by following the link:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/townlands/index.cfm?fuseaction=TownlandsInCivil&civilparishid=1040&civilparish=Killannin&citycounty=Galway

the website also shows what ROman Catholic Church Records are available from the parish. Follow this link:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=showidrecords&churchid=629&CityCounty=Galway&CityCounty=West%20Galway&parish=Killanin

There are a number of sources that are available to help find familily records, however it is very hard to know where to begin if you can't narrow it down in terms of dates.

Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Dennis,

I too am looking for David and Sarah Walsh.  They are my gggrandparents. I found them on the 1901 Ireland Census under Galway. David was 55 and Sarah was 46.  They lived in Finnaun Townland.

I have information on their son Patrick David who came to the US in 1880's and married Margaret "Maggie" Jane Gibbons in 1891 in Scranton, PA. She too was from Oughterard.

If you have found any additional information on David and Sarah Walsh since your last post, I would love to hear about what you have found.

    Thanks.
