Ancestors on Clare Island and in Louisburgh

My relatives were named Bradshaw. Kilgeever Leecarrow Clare Island, there was a mary Joyce May have married Richard Bradshaw don't know where could have been Mayo as according to U.K. census1871 he was born Mayo 1819.     Can any body help me with records.  Westport Family History centre found a Baptism for Mary Bradshaw at Kilgeever Catholic Church in 1858 Mother was mary Joyce.The family must have travelled to U.K. somewhere between.1858 and 1871 at which time Richard was a Widower.  Need to find Mary's death record.

My grandmother was Mary (Maryann) Grady, the sister of Sonny (JOhn) and Willie Grady on Strake, Clare Island. My aunt told me that my great-grandfather was called "Pat Willie Ol' Hat".  I am having trouble finding info on this family. According to my family we are related to the Winters, Gallaghers, O'Malley's, Flanagans and, I think, Mary Barrett, who uncle Willie used to check on and look after.

Hi Margaret,

Civil Registration did not become mandatory in Ireland until 1864 so all records prior to this were kept by the local church. Most of these records are still held locally so you really do need to know where the marriage took place in order to be able to look at the records. You could start with Kilgeever as this was where their daughter was born. It may be an idea to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance.

With regards to Richard?s birth certificate once again you really need to know where he was born to find it. Sometimes however fathers? names were recorded on marriage certificates so if you can at least find that it may be of some help.

One website that you may find useful in terms of Catholic records is the Irish Times, where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes and also where you can find copies of the records. For Kilgeever parish follow this link:

Finally, if Richard died after 19864, it would be recorded in civil records. These are  are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:

Thank you for your response, rthe Westport Family History Centre advised ther was only one record  that was of Mary Bradshaw daughter of Richard Bradshaw and Mary Joyce 1858 one of the Godparents was John Winter

Other than Griffiths Valuation I don't know any more of Irish Records of my ancestors.

Is Kilgeever part of Mayo or are they seperate?

All I know of Richard's birth came from England Census of 1871 which stated Mayo 1819. How can I find the Parish?

I have tried the sites you mentioned but no results . I don't know what to do from here.

Any further advise?
