When Crowbar & Bayonet Ruled- The Land War on The Belcarra Estate of Harriet Gardiner & Susanna Pringle 1879-1910, is a study of the Land War in the Parishes of Drum; Ballyhean; Breaghwy & Aglish during the closing decades of the 19th Century and early 20th Century. The book, which I have co-authored with Jim O'Connor, will be published in the early new year and contains a detailed account of evictions, imprisomnments, court hearings, house levelling and land meetings held in Belcarra, Frenchill, Tully, Ballyhean and Castlebar. The book contains the names and details of hundreds of persons including tenants, clergy, police and others and should be of assistance to those researching their family history in the area. There is also a detailed account of the role of James Daly and the Connaught Telegraph. Details of the launch will be announced shortly.
