Hello and Good evening/morning/afternoon I am trying to trace my family on my fathers side.. His name was Douglas Carroll, born around 1920 – 1940.. He married my mother Dorothy Thelma Jackson in 1964. I was born to them on the 30/08/1963 my full birth name is Jayne Susan Carroll I am led to believe that my grandfather was the Mayor of Dublin (Independent Party) around 1957 – 1965. I believe that he was alive from 29/03/1907 to 30/07/1973 age 66 yrs. In his time it is believed that he also went over to New York and plastered the inside of the Empire State Building. Douglas had a brother Aiden (Aidan Carroll (26 January 1930 – 24 April 1979) an Irish politician who served as a Dublin City Councillor from 13th June 1960 to 12th June 1967. His father was Daniel Carroll (originally from 16, Windsor Terrace, Portobello, Dublin) and his mother was Elizabeth (nee O'Leary) from Oulart Co. Wexford) .I am now a mother of 3 and a grandmother of 4.. I believe that they shuld know their Irish side of the family.. I unfortunately have not seen my father since I was about 4 yrs old due to my parents divorce, my email address is jayne.s.kirby@hotmail.co.uk Thank you for taking the time to read this. And if anyone can help me I will be truely grateful, and always in your debt   Regards  Jayne Kirby nee Carroll Ps I have uploaded some photo's of which i believe to be my grandfather tho not too sure

  • Hello Jayne

I have been searching for my Irish side for over 16 years – I know how difficult it is!

From the GRO Marriage Index we can see that your parents married in 1962, do you have a copy of their marriage certificate?

If you do, it will show the ages of your parents when they married and among other things will show the names of the respective fathers and their occupations etc.

Do you know where your father was born? From what you say, it sounds as if it may be Ireland. If the age your father gave at the time of his marriage is correct then that might lead you to his birth certificate in whichever country he was born. The birth certificate will also confirm the name of his father and give you his mother’s maiden name.

You mention that Douglas’s father may have been a Mayor of Dublin, what was the source of that information? Likewise that for Aidan the Dublin  City Councilor?

Has your mother been able/or wanted to give you any information about your father?

    H
