I am trying to find where my g.g.grandmother came from in Ireland.
The documents I have, Death and Marriage only state that she came from Ireland. The only clue I have is her mother's maiden name was Gosling/Goslin. This name was passed down to some of her children as a second name.
She came to NZ before she was married in Feb, 1863 and married William Henry Worth who was an American. She died in 1902 and is buried in Wellington NZ.

Hi
Thank you for your message.
Do you know much about her emigration? The dates, the reason why she left, who she might have travelled with?..etc.? Generally, more information was given at the port of arrival rather than the port of departure. If you knew which city they arrived at, this could be a good place to find more information -and perhaps even find out an exact place of origin. There are lots of books and documents available about the Irish emigration to NZ. There is a website you could look at: http://www.teara.govt.nz/en/irish/2 for information about the Irish in New Zealand.
You can check for information about the frequency of the name in the mid-19th century and any other variant spellings of the name here: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname/
If you haven't already - you might try one of the following:
The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/
The National Archives Scotland- family history: http://www.nas.gov.uk/familyHistory/
Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you.
Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.
Kind regards,
