Carney

Any idea what county he came from. Any idea at all?

Daniel lived most of his life near Dumfries.  I have marriage, death, census, newspaper articles and many visits to Scotland but not a clue where in Ireland he came from.  Records of his family are from the St. andrew's Catholic records in Dumfries.  I suspect he is from county Down based on some skimpy evidence and connections to the Cassidy family name.  Daniel's surname in the records is spelled Kearney, Carnochan, Cairney, but mostly Carney.  Any help on where to go from here would be great.
