John Cooper, born about 1798 in Macroom, and Mary Sheehan, born 1822 in Macroom, were married in Macroom 15 Oct 1836 by Catholic Priest Rev. K. O'Brien. They immigrated to the United States on the "Susquehanna," arriving in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 26 June 1849. Traveling with them were 20-year old Ellen Sheehan and 20-year old Jeremiah/Jerry Lanahan. John and Mary settled in Mendota, LaSalle Co., Illinois, where they lived until their deaths (1875 and 1910 respectively). They were the parents of 10 known children: William (1837), Mary Ann (1838), Anna Elizabeth (1840), Elizabeth (1843), Sarah (1847), John (1850), Ellen (1852), Rebecca (1857), Catherine (1861), and Jane (1863). The first five children were born in Ireland and the remaining five in the United States. I'm looking for information on the families of John Cooper, Mary Sheehan, and Jerry Lanahan.

Hi Ann,
Thank you for your message.
Have you tried looking in Church records for either John or Mary's birth certificate? If you can find these it would give you the names of their parents. To see what church records are available for the Roman Catholic parish of Macroom follow this link to the irishtimes website:
You could also do a search for the Cooper/Sheehan/Lanahan family in the Tithe Applotment Books. These were land records that were compiled between 1823 and 1837 in order to determine the amount which occupiers of agricultural holdings should pay in tithes to the Church of Ireland. You can search these here:

You could also try searching the later land records called Griffith's Valuation (1848-1864) here:

Some othe rwebsites which you may find useful are:
