Looking for information on my Pue/Shannon families in Crossmolina.
My 3rd great grandfather was John Pew, born in 1762 to, I believe Henry and Bridget.
He married Elizabeth Jane Shannon (also born in Crossmolina in 1769 to, I believe, Meg Cullen and Francis Shannon) in 1803.
Their son Robert was born in 1810 and baptized, in the Church of Ireland, in Crossmolina.
They seemed to have spent their entire lives there and John died in 1833 in Ballinrobe.
Elizabeth Jane Shannon Pugh died in, I believe, January 4, 1864 in Bangor District. Her address was put down as Rossdough. She was not buried with her husband in Ballinrobe and I'd love to find out where she is buried.
My 2nd great grandfather, Robert, left Mayo and continued on to Leitrim, Roscommon and Sligo with his wife Mary McSharry (Foley). They were buried in Sligo City, Sligo and at the time of his death, Robert had converted to Catholocism (I beleive he did this when he married Mary in Kinlough, County Leitrim).
My 3rd great grandfather John and his son Robert were both stone masons.
Any help with the Pues or Shannons would be greatly appreciated.

Hi if still there!
Pew / Pue and Shannon families were Church of Ireland and lived in pre Famine times in Ballinagur townland in Moygownagh of Crossmolina Union and thus St. Mary's church was where they were baptised and married.

Hello, New to this site. I am related to John Pue & Elizabeth Jane Shannon. I visited Ireland in the summer of 2019 & stopped at The North Mayo Heritage Site & learned a lot of information. I would love to speak to anyone with more information to connect some dots. Thank you so very much & Take Good Care, Charlie - Seattle WA - USA

Hi Charlie,
My 2x great grandfather was Robert Pue. I have very little on his family. When I started researching him, I found a birth certificate for a Robert Pue born 1810 County Mayo parents John Pue and Elizabeth Shannon. He was the only Robert Pue I saw when researching for him. He went to County Leitrim and married my 2x great grandmother who was Catholic and all the children were raised Catholic.
He was said to have been disowned by the family when he married Mary in July of 1846. Unfortunately they did not put the names of he parents on their marriage certificate so the only thing I have is his, maybe, birth certificate. He was a stone mason as was all of his sons.
The moved from County to County and then finally settled in Sligo where my great grandfather was born, Henry.
Supposedly, many years later, my great grandfather who emigrated here to NY, showed up on a work site and was hired. He was having lunch with one of the workers and the worker commented on him having the same name as the bosses (or owners). My great grandfather came to find out that this site was being run by his cousins and he walked off the site. He told my great grandmother he would never work for them. We are guessing because of what happened with his father and because the cousins themselves were Church of Ireland (and free masons) and he wanted none of that. It is a story passed down. True, maybe, I'm still searching. We never ever knew that Pue was Protestant. This just shocked the family. My grandmother said her mother would talk about Ireland all the time and her family, her father would not. He said America was his home and that was it.
Would love to hear what you have. I am hoping that my Robert Pue is the same Robert Pue that belonged to John and Elizabeth. Would be great to finally find out.
Have a great day!
