Hi.
Thank you for your message.
Do you have any documentation that mentions any place name at all-a parish name/village/town?
Have you tried looking in to Alexander's emigration? Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than that of departure. If you look into his immigration records it may be a place to find more information-and perhaps even an exact place of origin. For immigration records in the US check the US National Archives at the following address:
http://www.archives.gov/research/immigration/
You could also do a search for Alexander in the Castlehgarden database here:
You could also try doing a search for Alexander's parents in the Tithe Applotment Books. These are land records that were were compiled between 1823 and 1837 in order to determine the amount which occupiers of agricultural holdings should pay in tithes to the Church of Ireland . Although they do not offer any genealogical information, if multiple results are not returned it may give you a parish name. You can search these here:

You could also check the later record, Griffith's Valuation (1848-1864) here: http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
Some other websites which may help or give you some ideas are:

The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx

I hope that this helps. Remember to post any new information you find. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Kind regards,
