My great grandfather, Daniel Wolftone Fahey (became Fay) b. ca. 1835 County Galway, came to America June 1853 - bound for Philadelphia. He married 1858 Louisville, Jefferson Co., KY to Catherine Mary Mullen (her Irish birthplace unknown). Have no record of any of their relatives except: In Illinois 1880 census, with this is a Michael Niester (shown as "father" but not sure if this is Catherine's or Daniel's- birth father or step father????). Catherine and Daniel had Thomas Fay b. 18y0; William Fay b. 1867; Anna Elizabeth Fay b. 1870; James Francis Fay b. 1872; Robert Emmett Fay b. 1874; Daniel W. Fay b. 1876; John Patrick Fay b. 1878;' Charles Parnell Fay b. 1882; Agnes Mary Fay b. 1884.
Daniel (after Catherine died - of course) married a "cousin" Bridget Fay Ethell,a widow. Presumed to marry in Kentucky.
Daniel died in Kentucky in 1925 but had lived in PA,IL,IA, OK, and Canada during his lifetime,dying in KY but buried in Ottuma, Iowa.

Have you tried searching in church records for information on Daniel or his family? Most Catholic records are held locally. One website which may be helpful is the irishtimes. Here they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Mountbellew/Moylough parish records follow this link:

If you can find Daniel's birth record it will give you his parent's name.
You could also check the land records for some mention of the family. There are two:
The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) you may find Daniel's parents here.

The later record Griiffith's Valuation dates from 1848-1864. You may find record of Daniel before he left.

Do you know much about Catherine's emigration? You may be able to find information on her in her emigration records. Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than that of departure. You may even be able to find out her exact place of origin.
