Peter Quinn and Katherine Bennett were my great great grandparents and this was as far back as I could trace.... Their son John Patrick Quinn immigrated to Tweed, Ontario, Canada.... Might anyone have some additional info?

Hi,
Thank you for your message.
Do you have any other information on Peter and Katherine that you could share? Do you have any important dates in the family that would help establish the timeframe you are looking at? Dates such as birth/marriage and the date of John's emigration. Do you know the family's religious denomination?
You can check in church records for inforamtion on the family. Most Catholic records are held locally. You can see what records are available in specific parishes on the irishtimes website. For Newry parish follow this link:
For Church of Ireland records check http://www.ireland.anglican.org/index.php?do=information&id=63
You may also find them in the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century depending on the time frame. There are two:
The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and Griffith's Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
You could also check the 1901 and 1911 census records if they are relevant.

Some other websites which may be helpful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx

Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
