Seeking any clues to the origins of Thomas Moore and Annie Kirwan Moore, my great-great grandparents. My great-grandfather Charles Moore emigrated to NYC in 1885 and eventually settled in Rhode Island. This Thomas Moore, a barrister, may have practiced in England and is not the poet. Family lore suggests he was from County Wicklow.

Hi,
Thank you for your message.
It may be hard to find information on the family without a more specific place of origin. Most Irish record sources- church records, land records, census records- are based on specific locations. Until you know a specific location within Ireland, preferably a parish or placename, it may be difficult to do anything more with these records.
Do you have any documentation belonging to Charles that mentions any place names? Have you looked into his emigration much? Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than that of departure, so you could possible find a placename here. For immigration records in the US check the US National Archives at the following link:
http://www.archives.gov/research/immigration/
Given the date of his emigration, he was probably processed at Castlegarden. You can search their database here:
You could try doing a search in Griffith's Valuation for Thomas. This was a property valuation survey carried out between 1848-1864, however it doesn't offer any genealogical information. It does give parish names though. Hopefully if too many results are not returned it may give you a starting point. You can search this here:

Alternatively, you could try contacting the Wicklow Family History Centre for assistance. However a fee may apply. Here are their contact details:

Wicklow County Council,
Wicklow Town.

I hope that this is helpful and that you are able to find a specific place of origin. Once you have this things will then open up and you will be able to search further.
Kind regards,
