Can anyone direct me to a source which indicates who was apprenticed? I know almost nothing about my gt grandfather but he was an apprentice tailor. His life is a complete mystery before he emmigrated.
Thank you for any help.

Hi Barb,
What time frame are you talking about & where did he live. Regards Carmel O'Callghan

All I know is he was born abt. 1819 in Co. Antrim. I assume he would have been apprentice when he was approx. age 14, so that would be abt 1832 or so.

Hi Barb,
Sorry for not coming back sooner to you. I had thought it would have been easy to find relevant information for you & all I could find was this link
http://www.howto.co.uk/learning/local-history/apprentice_records/ which confirms that in order to do a job which I am sure would include Tailors you would have to do an apprentiship, it does appear that in UK that records were kept, I dont know if such records were kept here,I could not find records. I do not that in recent history that if anyone wanted to be an apprentice that the family had to pay fees for their study, that has all changed now with exams & the students have to attend college for part of their apprenticeship, the relevant jobs now would be plumbers, mechanics, hairdressers etc
But you do appear correct with the age.
Best Wishes Carmel
