Greetings,
I'm seeing information on the Hynes family of Gort. Records indicate they may have been merchants. Ellon Hynes (my great, great grandmother) married Jeremy (Darby) Finnerty in the early 1860's. Records indicate they lived in Peterwell and produced 12 children born between 1864 and 1894; Katherine, Ellen, Delia, Mary, Jeremy, Martin, Bridget, Patrick, John, and Anne.
Any information will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Brian

Brian, think we we ave been here previously, the church reocrds for Gort only commence circa 1848 so we cannot find anything earlier except various local information, in the civil divison Gort is listed as an Electoral Division and does not appear in the Tithes as a place, there are 228 Hynes in Galway in the Tithes so you can search by townland. http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
Lewis Topography Directory lists a Patrick Hynes in Gort, 1826 to 1850, there is a trade directory done in 1884 and if you could locate the Galway one it will mention various business's in Gort.
I see also on Ancestry the school rolls for a school Ganty, no idea where but a few Hynes in there.
