Name: Jane Ann Scott born c 1828 in County Tyrone

Emigrated: With parents Robert Scott (schoolteacher) and Jane his wife. Siblings were Margaret (her twin), Robert, Eliza, Henry.

Ship: 'Manlius' via Greenock to Port Phillip Australia

Arrived: 16 February 1842. Plague on board ship

Parents: both dead. No embarkation information available as is normally the case due to seizure of ship's paperwork for a government inquiry into loss of life. Therefore full names, ages, place of birth, religion etc are all unknown.

Children: Placed in orphanges in Australia

Any assistance with information would help to clear up a family mystery

    Thanks again for your message. There is some great information here, albeit very tragic.

     

    It may be quite difficult to find information on the family in Ireland without a specific place of origin. Most Irish record sources- church records, land records, census records- are based on specific locations. Until you know a specific location within Ireland, preferably a parish or place name, it may be difficult to do anything more with these records.

     

    You could try doing a search of the two land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century. However these do not have any genealogical information. They can sometimes be used to tie a person to a specific place, however if multiple results are returned, there is no way to confirm which are relevant to you. There are two@

    And Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/     

     

    You could also try searching for the family at https://familysearch.org/  This is a huge database of genealogical records complied by the Church of Latter Day Saints.
