My great grandparents Edward O'Malley and Bridget O'Malley were married in Oughavel RC Parish on 7 Feb 1872. (Yes, it is correct that they both had the same surname). I have found the marriage record in the rootsireland website. Does anybody know how I can find out the name of the church they were married in?
I am also interested in tracing the family further back but there aren't any birth records for Edward or Bridget in any websites I've looked at. I have looked in Familysearch, rootsireland and Ancestry.
The marriage record gives addresses, Culleen for Edward and Kilsallagh for Bridget.
Edward's father was Patrick, he was a landholder. Bridget's father was Martin, he was a tailor. I'd be really interested to find out more about them if anybody can help??
Griffiths Valuations and the Tithe Aplotments don't make much sense to me, I cannot see the connection between an entry in either of them with lineage research.
For information: I have 'figured out' that Edward and Bridget left Ireland about 1880 with at least 3 children and settled in Stockport, Cheshire, England where the family grew and as time has passed they are now spread out around the world.

Hi,
I also have Malleys/O'Malleys/Maleys in my family. You can try as a good research tool the website "mayoancestors.com". For free you can type in your ancestors names and knowing the first names of their fathers and ages, you can narrow down possible births and baptisms which would then give you the first initials of their mothers. For a small fee you can get more info like their full names and sponsors at the baptism and siblings names.
Also I have seen Culleen spelled with a K as well here and there.
There is also a website run by Pat Deese, google Pat Deese Mayo. He has transcribed a ton of marriage and baptism records from those areas and Im sure you will find something from there, (free). I have had lots of luck with both sites.
One of my great grandmothers was Sabina Malley who married a Stephen Toner. There were a lot of Sara and Sally and Sabina Malleys, and I did find the marriage record for them on mayoancestors.com but that's about all I can pinpoint for her so if you find something, let me know, born abt 1829, Mayo, thanks

Thanks for the comments. I haven't come across any Sabina's.
I've looked everywhere for birth records for Edward and Bridget including Deese Genes, FamilySearch, Ancestry.co.uk, Roots Ireland and Mayo Ancestors and still cannot find anything. If nobody else in this Mayo parish group can provide any information perhaps I'll go to my local LDS genealogy rooms.

Hello again
Although I have already answered this message I have now come across Sabina born abt1829.
In FamilySearch, although the spelling is atrocious I believe this is her son:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FRQR-LBS
In ancestry.co.uk I saw a death record for Sabina O’Malley born abt 1829 and died in Westport Jun 1887. That’s probably not yours though.

Hi Tina
Please don't waste your time looking for my family because I paid the Clew Bay Hertage place to look at parish records, they drew a blank for Edward and gave me a 'guess' for Bridget. The records don't go back far enough for Edward and Bridget Malley/O'Malley is one of the most common names in the area.
While I was waiting for the research Ancestry put the very same parish records on their website but when I looked at them I realised I would have needed help to understand them. They are so slack sometimes, some of them don't even have dates.
Good luck with your research and thanks for the offer.
Regards, Madeleine

I may have found your Bridgets baptism - I was looking thru Ancestrys new scans of baptisms from Kilgeever, Louisburgh which emcompassed the area around Cuileen and Kilsallagh, and kept your names in mind. Here is a baptism for Bridget Malley May 8, 1853 to Martin Malley and Winny Malley - sponsors were Francis Burns and Catherine Gannon.
I also have Burns in my family.
If you want to email me @definist@comcast.net I can send you the copy =- the site here is not letting me.

Hi again
I did try to emaiil you but the address isn't being recognised.
This is the message:
Thanks for keeping me in mind, the genealogist at the Clew Bay Heritage centre gave me the same information but she didn’t tell me who the sponsors were.
I have found a couple of records in Ancestry but they don’t have sponsors in them.
I have:
http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?ti=5538&indiv=try&db=celticcatholicbaptisms&h=702352 I know the year is different but one of the sponsors in the marriage of Bridget to Edward is Mary Malley.
And I have
http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?ti=5538&indiv=try&db=celticcatholicbaptisms&h=701913 an that’s the one I found after I’d got the answer from Clew Bay.
Edward and Bridget had 10 children and their names did not include a Winfred but there was a Mary Ann (miserable old great aunt of mine).
Edward and Bridget’s son Edward was my dad’s father and my dad’s only sister was Winifred.
I have a spreadsheet of lots of births, baptisms and marriages for Malley/O’Malley in the Westport area, I’ve been trying to piece them all together but not getting very far.
My big stumbling block is:
Bridget’s father Martin was a tailor, I have not been able to find any records of a Martin who was a tailor and a father to a groom or a bride.
I live in New Zealand but will be visiting Westport (for the first time in my life) near the end of June this year and was hoping to be able to look at ‘real records’ but it seems they are all jealously guarded by the heritage centres.
I’d be really grateful for any help you can provide. My email address is macook2012@xtra.co.nz

Ok I did find Martin Malley on the griffiths for Kilsallagh Upper, Kilgeever, Oughaval Parish, and I did find Patrick Malley listed on the Cuilleen griffiths same area. I am sure they are yours. The baptism might be your family I will email you at the address you listed and send you all the info.
I think what I have will help you out a lot.
And thanks again for looking out for mine:)
My Geraghtys and Burns were from exactly the same area, and after looking at your Griffiths, it helped me with those lines in my family as well.
