Thanks Michael, I'm not exactly sure how you knew to forward this to me. But interestingly, Jim is a DNA match to me on Ancestry DNA and on Gedmatch.

I had a g g uncle called John Ahern who married a Catherine Regan.  John had a brother James Ahern and we don't know what happened to him but I strongly suspect that he is the same James mentioned here. (bit of coincidence too that my Ahern married a Regan and so did Jim's?)  One of the sisters married a Dunne from Kildorrery and they are my Dunnes.
