Have you tried looking into Church records in Ballyhale? Most Catholic records are held locally. One website which you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Ballyhale parish follow this link:

(Please note, when you are looking at Church of Ireland Records, that Ballyhale is part of Derrynahinch civil parish)

You can also check the land records for record of the Carty?s in the area. These do not have any genealogical information but can sometimes be used to tie a person to a specific place. There are two:

The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp

and Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/     

Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864. These are available at the General Registers Office. Here is their website:

The next records that we have available are the 1901/1911 census records. You could search these to see if there were any Carty?s still in the area at the turn of the century. You can search these online here:

Another good search website is  https://familysearch.org/ This is a huge database of genealogical records that has been compiled by the Church of the Latter Day Saints.
