Hello

I am looking for information on James Crozier of Montpelier Hill. My connection is his daughter Margaret Crozier b.1871 in Dublin and who married George Witherspoon in Birmingham, England. I know that he was a Justice of the Peace at Mountjoy Prison, they have confirmed this. I don't have a spouse name or any other children's names apart from my great great grandmother Margaret. He wrote a letter to her in 1898 from Montpelier House, Montpelier Hill. I have just found a name on the 1901 & 1911 census' that could be a match but without further information to confirm the other member of the family's names I am a bit stuck. Any information would be extremely gratefully received. Thank you.

  • Hello Michael

Thank you so much for your information ! It is a real puzzle and after several years of on off research I am no closer to solving it ! There are a few possibilities. 1. James was married before either in Scotland or Ireland and Margaret was by that marriage. However on his marriage cert to Sarah Ann it says Batcheor not widower. 2. Margaret was his Ward not his biological daughter and that is why she put his name as Father on her marriage cert to George Witherspoon. I haven't found any birth records for her in Dublin which is strange as she states on the British census' born in Dublin, Ireland. All the Molony/Crozier children have clear birth records.

The letter I have from Montpelier House to Margaret in Birmingham is missing the last page where one would expect the Father, Dad, Uncle signature so once again a brick wall !  I don't know where to go net really, apart from employed a professional to take up the case which isn't a possibilty at the moment. Do you have any ideas of what I could try next ?

Once again thank you very much for your reply.

  • Oh my goodness ! Her name was Julia Mary not Margaret ! No wonder I could not find any records for her ! Thank you SO much I would never have found her without the JM reference on those Irish Times clippings !  I have just been telling the family and they are delighted so thank you again. I shall be spending all night researching her mother !

Regards & Merry Christmas to you :)
