Looking for information re Smith family Gortaculra Edward and Martha. They Wicklow to Tipperary circa 1865. They had ten children. I think Edward may have been a groom on Carden Estate before he started farming in Gortacurra. Martha maiden name Chapman. Edward and Martha were married in Co Wicklow. They had 10 children 8 girls Mary Anne Sarah, Martha, Henrietta, Catherine, Jane, Annie and Elizabeth and two sons Edward and John. I think that some off their children were baptised in Bourney Church of Ireland

  • Hi Maraid

Following a message i recived from Emma i did a search for Edward and Martha Smith in the townland of Gortacurra. I could not find them living in Bourney parish so i checked the parish of Kilea which is nearer to Templemore where the Carden Estate was and found them in the 1901/1911 census. www.census.nationalarchives.ie

They were married for 48 years in 1911 had 10 children born and 10 living.

I checked the Bourney civil records and found the following children baptised. Mary 1868, Martha (or Martin) 1871, Sarah 1874, Jane 1877, John & Cathriine 1880 Elizabeth 1881, Henereitta 1884 & Anne 1887. I could not find Edward. Mary,Martha & Jane were also recorded in the Church of Ireland records Templemore.

You can view the records in more detail on a pay for view site www.rootsireland.ie
