Did a little looking to see what could be found. Right away noticed that the spelling for Johns marriage record is different from what you give above. McIlwrath is the spelling used on the transcription.

Did see at LDS family search that you John was married at age 21 and wife Margaret Allen was also 21 at time of marriage, so both were born abt. 1835, according to this transcription.

This site is not saying where they obtained the data for the 1st record showing, but does state that Johns father is Charles McIlwrath. No mothers name is given. This is in keeping with Johns son being named John Charles. Do you know Johns Middle name or initial?

This same record also give Margarets father as Robert Allen and again no mother is listed.

Further browsing through the LDS family search site reveals another record of this same marriage indexed slightly differently with no other data other than the marriage date and Johns name. However this record does give a little further data on where LDS transcribed it from.

As this is a general registry, it might be well worth sending for a copy as there is no indication at the LDS site of where residence was.  As the marriage was under general registry, I would think there should be some indication of where the people were registering from, a church perhaps, a parish, something.

It does appear that there were numerous McIlwrath families within County Antrim as well as County Down. I don?t know where you are posting from, so do not know if you can access the local family history center.
