I am trying to find some further information about my grandmother's early life.  She was born Hannah Josephine O'Neill on either 1st or 31st December 1902 at 7 Rosemary Lane, near Merchant Quays, Dublin.  Her father was Henry O'Neill, a labourer and her mother was Elizabeth O'Neill, nee Barnes.  Elizabeth was born on 21st October 1869 at 8 Montague Place, Dublin.  Her father was John Barnes, a porter and her mother was Bridget Barnes, nee O'Connor.

When Hannah was 7/8 her mother removed her, and her younger sister Bridget, to a convent in Wicklow for their education changing the girl's surnames to Barnes.  By the time Hannah was 14 they had returned to Dublin and resumed the name O'Neill.  By this time Henry had presumably emigrated to New York.   Hannah and her mother and sisters emigrated to England after the Easter Uprising in 1916.  Only one sister returned to Ireland.  Hannah married and had 15 children.  She died in 1970 aged 67 and is buried in Daventry, Northamptonshire.
