Looking for information regarding the Porter family who lived on a farm at Lavally near Ballymote.
William Porter b 1798 married to Ann Allen b 1807 and their three children, Thomas b 1829, Eliza(beth) b 1831 and Ann b 1834. Left for Canada late summer of 1847 aboard the ship Lady Sale.
William's father's name possibly Richard mothers possibly name Ann. Ann's parents Thomas Allen and Ann Cochrane. Would like to find confirmation of parents names and siblings if any.
William and Ann both died upon landing in St John New Brunswick, but the children made their way to Ontario and lived successful lives. I am descended from Thomas who is my 2nd Great Grandfather.
Anything would be appreciated.

Hi,
Thank you for your message.
Unfortunately, it may be difficult to confirm William and Ann?s parents? names as the reality of finding documentation pertaining to births/baptisms/marriages/deaths in Ireland prior to 1800 ? particularly in rural areas ? is that they simply may not exist. Please also note that the Church of Ireland was the official church of the country and therefore the bulk of information that does survive for earlier periods is often from these registers.
For information on Church of Ireland Registers check http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/. The Anglican Record Project is has created an index to their records: http://ireland.anglican.org/cmsfiles/pdf/AboutUs/library/AngRecord/bunclodyunionindex.pdf
You can see from the Irish Times website that Catholic records for the area do not begin until c. 1856 here:
