All the above children are listed with parents Jeremiah McGillicuddy and Sarah Leslie.
I have the tree down from James and the families of many of the boys which I would be happy to share. I am not family myself but have an interest (my wife would call it an obsession) to identify the son James and his path from Kerry to California and then Australia where he was involved in the Eureka Stockade incident.
My main questions relate to the parents Jeremiah and Sarah - Who were they?
I am aware that there were many of the same name around the same time, however the "Chute family" listing on Rootsweb mentions many names current in the tree I have. For example, the name "Herbert" was preserved not only with James, but his brother Cornelius has a GGGgranddaughter named "Paula Herbert McGill" with a sister "Sarah Leslie McGill". Family tradition has James as somehow related to the McGillicuddy of the Reeks, and refer to Sarah as "Lady Sarah" which might suggest a connection to Leslie House in Kerry. I estimate that both were born circa 1800 and so far have no birth record close enough. I have considered the Cornelius born 1762 of Cornelius Connor McG and Catherine Chute. However I haven't found any record yet of spouse or children. I also have not identified Sarah but note that she was pregnant when married so possibly they went to another district for the wedding. The witnesses include a De Courcey, another significant name of the time. Many of the family went to USA c1849 but I have not found a record of their passage and there is a possibility that they did not all go at once. One family story has Jeremiah owning land in the area around Boston, and travelling back and forth before the permanent move, but I cannot confirm.
The Leslies of Kerry are often recorded but the girls do not get much of a mention if any. The following: Baptism of FRANCES LESLIE of LESLIE LODGE on 28 November 1798 is the closest match for Sarah Leslie if, like her mother she used her second name in daily life and it happened to be Sarah! How can I find out?
I am at a brick wall and looking for a way to proceed but as much as possible without much expense. I would appreciate any advice.
Thanks,
Dennis Wright

Hi Dennis,
Thank you for your message.
You have obviously done a lot of work on this family history!
As Jeremiah and Sarah were based in Co. Kerry it may be an idea to also post this message on the Co. Kerry page or even the Killorglin parish page in the hope that one of our volunteers there will see the message and be able to advise or assist you.
You could also try contacting the Local Studies Department of Kerry Library for possible assistance and advice. Here is a link to their contact page:

Have you tried to find Jeremiah and Mary?s birth records as a means to finding out their parents? names? Most Catholic records are held locally so it may be an idea to contact the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find helpful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes.
For Killorglin parish follow this link:
For Church of Ireland records check http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/. The Anglican Record Project is has created an index to their records: http://ireland.anglican.org/cmsfiles/pdf/AboutUs/library/AngRecord/bunclodyunionindex.pdf
I hope that this is helpful and that you are successful in filling in the gaps that remain. Best of luck.
Kind regards,
