I am a descendent of James Garvett McKenna, born in 1884 in Antrim, and his wife, Elizabeth Wood. I know that James (my great grandfather) had at least two sisters: Winnie and Kitty. I believe that James and Elizabeth already had three sons when they emigrated to Canada: James Victor, Norman, and Frank.

I am looking for any relatives of either of my great grandparents.

    Hi,

Thank you for your message. I hope that someone recognises the family and makes a connection with you.

Have you tried looking in the 1901/1911 census records to see if there were any family members in the area at the time? You can search these here:

    http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/

You could also try looking in Civil Registration Records for any births/marriages etc. in the family. These records are available from the General Registers Office in Dublin (http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm), however you can search the indexes to these records here:

It may also be an idea to contact the Ulster Historical Foundation for assistance-a fee may apply. Here are their contact details:

Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

    Kind regards,
