I am looking for relatives that remained in Ireland. My great grandfather James Mullin, son of Henry Mullin and Ann nee Diamand Mullin. James left Londonderry in 1843 with his brother Cornelius and sister Grace. He had 2 siblings that remained in Ireland and it is the descensants of those siblings I am looking for information on. I know they were farmers and Roman Catholic. If anyone has any info I would appreciate the help.

Hi Pam,
Thank you for your message.
Do you have any other information that you can share, such as the names of the family that remained in Ireland?
Have you tried looking for information on them in Church records? Most Catholic records are held locally. One website which you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Faughanvale parish follow this link:
Some Church records are also available online. You can search here: www.familysearch.org
Civil registration became compulsory in Ireland in 1864 so you may be able to find some civil records belonging to the family that remained in Ireland. These records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin (http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm) However, you can do a search of the indexes online here: https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1408347
The next set of records available to you is the Irish census records from 1901 and 1911. These can be searched online here: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/ . Unfortunately, there are no later records than 1911.
Some other websites that you may find useful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/
The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm

It may be an idea to also contact the Derry Genealogy Centre for assistance- a fee may apply. Here are their contact details:

I hope this is helpful. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,
