Robert Willis (1808-1887) and his wife Jane Francis O'Connor have a nice memorial in the churchyard at Ballinamore, placed there by their daughter Margaret. Who were Robert's parents?
Robert was in the R.I.C Ballinamore, people in the library and genealogy centre have tried to help but nothing has been found. Its hard to believe that such a loving gravestone was erected without an obituary or some other notice of his passing. Any ideas?
Robert Willis came from Fermanagh, I have his constabulary record, so that much is certain. All Robert's children emigrated to Australia and New Zealand, his brothers (unknown) to America. I would love to hear from other Willis families, it would be wonderful to find our roots in Ireland.

Hi,
Thank you for your message. I hope that someone researching the same lines makes a connection with you.
Have you tried looking for Robert?s birth/baptismal certificate which would state his parents? names? Most Catholic records are held locally. One website which you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. You do not mention what parish Robert was born in, but if you follow this link it will take you to a map of Fermanagh. Simply click on the parish name to see what records are there:
http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/counties/rcmaps/fermanaghrc.htm
For Church of Ireland records check http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/. The Anglican Record Project is has created an index to their records: http://ireland.anglican.org/cmsfiles/pdf/AboutUs/library/AngRecord/bunclodyunionindex.pdf
Have you tried looking in local newspapers for death notices? The library you contacted may have already checked their catalogues to no avail, you can also do a search however at http://www.irishnewsarchive.com/
For more information on Newspaper archives go to the National Library website:
http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
Remember to include as much information as you can in your message. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,
