My gg grandfather, Patrick Carson, was born in County Roscommon in 1823 and came to the Rhode Island, via NYC, arriving on 14 May 1846. His parents were Patrick Carson and Bridget Quin. Any help in my search is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,
Thank you for your message.
You could try looking for information in Church records.
Most Catholic records are held locally so you may have to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website which you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For a map of Catholic parishes in Roscommon go to the following link, click on each parish to see what is available there:
http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/counties/rcmaps/roscommonrc.htm
For information on Church of Ireland records check: http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/.
www.familsearch.org also have a collection of records available online where you may be able to find some record relating to the family.
You could also try looking for the Carsons in the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century. There are two:
The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
Have you tried looking into Patrick?s emigration? Sometimes more information was given a the port of arrival so it may be a place to find out more. For information on immigration records in the US check the National Archives at http://www.archives.gov/research/immigration/
