Hi, I need some help in tracing a James Condon and Mary Hourihan married in Blarney 02/06/1861. They had a son David born 08/06/1862 in Blarney. James lived at 28 Shandon Street Cork. June 1895 when his son David Condon enlisted in the Royal Horse Artillery.
I have no record of the death of James and Mary Condon.
Any help would be greatfully received.
Joe

Hi Joe,
Thank you for your message.
Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864 so you should be able to find some record of James and Mary?s death in these records. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:
http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm
You can search the indexes to these records online at:
https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1408347
For more information on how to obtain the full records check: http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/Irish-civil-registration.html
You could try looking in Church records in Blarney for James and Mary?s marriage certificate. Sometimes marriage records might give fathers? names and possibly occupations. If either of them were born in the parish you may also be able to find their birth certs.
Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Blarney parish, follow this link:
For Church of Ireland records check: http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/.
www.familysearch.org has a collection of records available online.
I think that Shandon Street may be in Cork city. Have you tried checking the 1901 census record to see if James was still in Cork at the time? You can search these records here:

Some other websites that you may find useful are:
National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/
The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm

I hope that this is helpful.
Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,
