Hello,
In my search for my Tully ancestors, I have come across 2 questions about places. One of my possible ancestors was recorded as being born in "Levallyroe, Kiltullagh parish, Co Roscommon" in 1847. So, is the Levallyroe which is near Cloonfad the right one or is there a different one? The Levallyroe I've found is said to be in Co Mayo although near the boarder of Co Roscommon. I also read somewhere that Levallyroe was in the church district of Cloonfad, and that Cloonfad was in Kiltullagh. So, maybe Levallyroe was listed as in Kiltullagh parish for that reason!
Another of my possible ancestors is in the Tithe Applotment Book for Kiltullagh (1832) as living in "Curraphooka". He is the only person listed as living there! It is on the same image page as Stoneypark and Milltown. This is not Curragh as Curragh has its own separate listing in this Tithe book. Perhaps it's not that important to know exactly where Curraphooka is but since it was written there, I would like to know! I can't find this place listed anywhere!
Thank you very much for your help.

i have made a list of websites that mite help you in your seach good luck.
Failte Romhat has lots of other useful links you could try looking at ).www.failteromhat.com British parliamentary papers on Ireland can be found at:
http://eppi.dippam.ac.uk/documents/9824/eppi_pages/215093
The National Archives of Irelandhttp://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/ The National Library of Irelandhttp://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx The National Archives UK ? genealogy search:http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/ The Public Records Office of Northern Irelandhttp://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm The US National Archives http://www.archives.gov/ The National Archives Scotland- family history:http://www.nas.gov.uk/familyHistory/ The Library & Archives of Canada -http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/index-e.html Irish Newspaper Archives:http://www.irishnewsarchive.com/ The next thing you could do is find the counties and places in Ireland your family names are mostprevalent. Look at the website http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname/ and perhapssomething will match some other clue you may have found elsewhere? If nothing turnsup ? it is advisable to try different variations of the spellings of the names. If you have a possiblefirst name you could try the Irish Census 1901, 1911 at www.census.nationalarchives.ie/ or the landvaluation record called Griffiths Valuationhttp://askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml

Hello
Lavallyroe is indeed in Co. Mayo (near the town of Ballyhaunis). The local church is in Cloonfad, Co. Roscommon (literally just down the road) and the townland of Lavallyroe is in the church parish of Kiltullagh.
Hope this confirms things for you

I have been told by a local man that only two surnames that were in the townland of Levallyroe before the Gorta Mor were still in situe after the famine years. Those were the Loftus and McDonagh surnames. Both these names survived to very recent times. McDonagh have moved on now, but only in the last 10 years. The last male Loftus eyre died trajically in his yard by a tractor accident. He was a very promising young famer and a big loss not only to the townland but also to the community. Beannacht De le h-anam. Lavellyroe has also turned out a very high number that entered the priesthood. Bishop Regan of Chicago being one of these. Cardinal D'alton's father came from the townland (local foclore has it that the Cardinal was born in a barn alongside Tighes house. This story is likely to be true as his father was very ill at the time after having being released from Kilmainham Jail where he was incaracerated without trial under the 1881 PPP Act (Protection of People and Property Act). As a result they let their fine business run down in Claremorris for a period and came out to Levallyroe. The Cardinals father died when the baby was only six months old and the moter moved back to Claremorris. It was said there were seven priests from the Loftus family.
